Inviting School Leader Videos

Drs. William Purkey and Betty Siegel, cofounders of the International Alliance for Invitational Education and founding member Dr. John Novak   share insights about the history of IAIE, key concepts, and a systemic approach to developing inviting schools. This interview took place at the 2012 IAIE World Conference in Hong Kong.  Over 200 schools in Hong Kong use Invitational Education as their framework for helping students, staff, and  parents realize their potential.

Dr. William Purkey created Invitational Theory and Practice with colleagues Drs. John Novak & Betty Siegel.  His 1971 book, Self-Concept and Student Achievement" contributed greatly to the study of self-concept and its role in social, emotional, and academic success.  This vintage video captures one of Purkey's stories about the principal who just wouldn't accept  the "disnviting" message:"No you can't".  Inviting educators see the uniqueness  of others and help them realize their potential.

Dr. Betty Siegel was the first woman president of a US university.  She served as the president of Kennesaw State University for 25 years.  In this video she discusses inviting traits for successful leaders.
